H is for Heed: A to Z of Encouraging Homeschool Moms
As another year of homeschooling comes to an end, we find many moms questioning if they should continue, if they should start, or if they should change things in their homeschool routine. Have you prayed about it, Mom? H is for Heed — God will heed your voice.
Which Type Are You?
Three are three types of homeschooling moms:
- Those who are exhausted and ready to quit
- Those who relish the challenge and have a long-term plan in place
- And those who fall somewhere in-between

I know most of you will fall into that last category, because, let’s face it: a great deal relies on your personality type. But I’ve also found one huge factor is your belief system.
Those who bathe their life in prayer are much more likely to push through when the going gets tough. (Having a team of prayer warriors to help pray you through those tough times will help immensely!)
God Will Heed Your Voice
Let me explain what I mean.
Have you ever been at the store, or a playground, with your child, and you’re talking to someone (or reading a label) and suddenly you hear, “Mom!”
You look for the source of the voice, because you know it’s your child.
Or maybe while at a restaurant your name is called out, and you turn to see a friend you haven’t talked to in years.
These are things you heed: your child’s voice and your name.
God is the same way.
H is for Heed
As I pondered this series and prayed over what to write about for each letter of the alphabet, I struggled with the letter H. I sought the Lord’s help in prayer, “What would You have me say, Lord?”
Crickets.
I kept praying, and soon a whole conversation was going in my mind, but still no answer to my plea.
That’s when I realized, God was probably waiting for me to “get it.”
He heard me. He heard the sound of my voice as I prayed to Him.
Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God,
Psalm 5:2-3 (NASB)
For to You I pray.
In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice;
In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.

Seek Him, Homeschooling Mom
It sounds so simple, doesn’t it? But it works!
Are you tired? Seek His face and He will give you rest (Matthew 11:28) so you can continue on for another year.
Do you already have a plan in place? Seek His confirmation for those plans (Jeremiah 29:11) and then be willing to change them if God has other ideas.
It’s amazing, isn’t it? Whatever we need, whenever we need it, all we have to do is take time to ask God. He will heed our voice, Every. Single. Time.
Commit to the journey, my friend! Be steadfast, immovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord as you teach your children (1 Corinthians 15:58). Your work is not in vain.
H is for Heed because God is listening. He will heed your voice and come along side you to continue this journey called homeschooling.
